Jeannine Henebry captured her first images at the age of 5 with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Camera and black and white film. An impactful moment was meeting Photographer Minor White while taking photography classes at Colombia Collage in Chicago. During his lecture she connected with his famous quote “To See, To React, To Create”. This concept continues to resonate in the back of her mind when photographing.
Her formal art studies include Arizona State University, University of Colorado Bachelor of Arts, Pasadena Art Center, College of Design 2½ year Bachelor of Arts Photography Program. At a young age she was immersed in a semester at NOLS, (National Outdoor Leadership School) in Alaska, which connected her to the outdoors and left a deep impression which continues to shape her life and photography.
Jeannine came to California to study at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena where Ansel Adams had taught photography. His influence radiates through her monochromatic “Yosemite” series. At the Art Center, she furthered her development and refined her skillsets which solidified her lifelong passion for photography.
Jeannine and her brother John developed a professional photography company known as “The Henebrys”. They have been recognized internationally for over 30 years as the premier photographers for golf course landscapes and have photographed more than 400 courses Worldwide. Jeannine based her golf course landscape career on capturing images with a 4” x 5″ View Camera inspired by Ansel Adams.
Jeannine’s current focus is on photographing landscapes in California. Her photograph, “Winter Clearing,” of Cook’s Meadow in Yosemite, represents the culmination of the many years of mastering her craft and studying Yosemite Valley’s light and weather conditions which create an unforgettable image.
Using the finest advanced technology available, Jeannine now captures her images with a medium format PhaseOne IQ3 100 megapixel camera and pushes the limits with long exposure times and high dynamic range files. Recently, she has been chasing the Milky Way and exploring Astro landscapes in her series “Nocturnal”. She can endure the night time elements with focused concentration to capture the ultimate peak timing of the Milky Way. There is so much detail in the image files, they have the capacity to scale to wall size murals.
“My photography has been a lifelong passion and I will continue to articulate and express myself in the wilds of California through this medium.” Jeannine Henebry
